Aligning Early Literacy Practice to Standards and Assessment
Class Description:

This session is designed to give participants an opportunity to understand the literacy connections between Early Learning and Development Guidelines, school readiness, READ Act, and Colorado Academic Standards. Participants will use the these indicators to plan appropriate and engaging early literacy experiences for their students. Participants will collaborate to deepen their understanding of research based early literacy practices, connect the practices to their daily work, and plan for instruction that aligns to standards and assessments.

 

Note: Participants may find this session more valuable if they have the ability to collaborate with a colleague and/or team.

 

Outcomes & Takeaway(s):

Participants will gain a greater understanding of:

  • Understand assessment indicators for literacy and how they connect to standards and  assessment indicators.

  • Understand five key early literacy practices and which early literacy skills connect.

  • Experience  literacy lesson examples to understand how to leverage multiple assessment indicators and standards.

  • Plan/ adjust daily practices to align  assessment indicators and standards to early literacy practices.

Class Level:  

Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
