Class Description & Purpose:

Today's students are surrounded by computing technologies.  In fact, computer science is projected to be the fastest growing industry over the next 10 years. To prepare students for these career opportunities, DCSD must outfit students with robust and transferable computer science skills.  To allow all students the opportunity to experience computer science concepts, education must start at the elementary level.  This class provides DCSD elementary teachers the opportunity to learn how to create and implement computer science topics by integrating those concepts into current classroom curriculum.  Teachers will use unplugged activities as well as simple robotics.

Outcomes:

Participants will be able to...

  • Learn and apply strategies to teach basic computer science concepts to their students.
  • Explore ways to integrate computer science concepts into their current everyday curriculum.
  • Create a lesson plan that integrates computer science concepts with classroom content.

Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
