Class Description & Purpose:

In this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore the 5 elements of balanced literacy in the area of reading. Participants will consider how each of the elements fit together to provide a literacy rich environment to support authentic reading in the elementary classroom.

Outcomes:
  • Explore each of the 5 elements of balanced literacy in reading
  • Consider how each of the elements support reading development
Takeaway(s):

Purposefully plan for the integration of one or more of the elements of balanced literacy, in reading, into your literacy block or other instructional time with students when reading is taking place.

Class Level:  

Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
