Class Description & Purpose:

To deepen comprehension instruction understanding of various comprehension strategies (determining importance, visualizing, summarizing, questioning, inferring meaning, making connections, metacognition, etc.) in order to provide high quality, targeted instruction in reading comprehension.

Outcomes:
  • Explore each of the comprehension strategies (determining importance, visualizing, summarizing, questioning, inferring meaning, making connections, metacognition, etc.)
  • Consider how each of the strategies support reading comprehension
Takeaway(s):

Create an action plan to utilize one or more of the comprehension strategies as a part of your balanced literacy framework.

Class Level:  

Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
