MATH: Moving Beyond the Textbook- Purposeful Planning in Math
Class Description & Purpose:
In this session, participants will analyze the Standards for Mathematical Practice. They’ll determine why these are important and explore strategies that align. Participants will learn about surface, deep, and transfer learning experiences in math. Finally, they’ll create a unit plan based on standards and textbook resources, as they plan for higher-order-thinking opportunities.

Create a unit plan using standards and resources to support higher order thinking in math.
Participants will purposefully plan a math unit using standards, their math textbook, the Standards for Mathematical Practice, and opportunities for surface, deep, and transfer learning.
Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
