SCIENCE: Building Scientists:  Articulating What to Teach in Science 
Class Description & Purpose:

Participants in this class will engage in a vertical alignment process that will help them determine what the major topics, concepts, content, and/or skills they need to teach in Science during the school year.  Participants will also get an opportunity to examine how this process can be utilized to identify gaps or repetitions between vertical grade levels.

Outcomes:

Participants will be able to...

  • Identify how the vertical alignment process can be utilized to develop a well organized, aligned grade level curriculum.  

  • Analyze major topics, concepts, content, and/or skills they teach in Science and cross reference your thinking with the Colorado Academic Standards, Science Concepts, and/or the NGSS to validate or make adjustments.

  • Evaluate if there is repetition or gaps between vertical grade levels.

Takeaway(s):

Participants will develop the framework of an organized, aligned curriculum for their grade level.

Class Level:  

Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
