SOCIAL STUDIES: Cultivating Global Perspective With Students
Class Description & Purpose:

In this session, participants will collaboratively discuss and create age appropriate meaningful content exposing students to personal and global perspectives of self and others. Possible topics to explore are: environmental, social, cultural, political, and economic relations. Please bring a unit you would like to refine.

Outcomes:

Participants will:

  • Develop protocols to help students looks at worldviews and diverse thinking
  • Expose personal perspective and use that for teachable moments - Promote and provide opportunities to explore critical concepts that are age appropriate to build mutual respect
  • Expand awareness of global perspectives through different topics to support the “caring hearts and critical minds” view of students in a classroom
Takeaway(s):

Create an action plan with ideas to integrate lessons on cultivating global perspectives of self and with students.

Introductory - Getting started in an area, examples of possible entry points for implementation, foundational components of a practice/strategy, or big picture thinking around a practice/strategy.
